Learn About Zirconia Ceramic
Zirconia Ceramic Information
What is Ceramic?
Ceramic is a very broad term, that can be applied to many non-metallic materials that become hard when extreme heat is applied. Ceramics are found in everything from toilets to bulletproof vests!
What Ceramic is used in Chaos Ceramic rings?
Chaos Ceramic rings are made from an engineered zirconium ceramic. Simply put, this is one of - if not the - hardest ceramics available. This makes it virtually scratchproof.
Is Ceramic conductive?
Not at all. As ceramic is not a metal, it does not conduct electricity, which makes it the perfect choice for anyone who works in an environment where electricity is an issue.
Is Ceramic hypoallergenic?
Ceramic is 100% hypoallergenic and allergy free and will not produce skin irritation or discoloration. Ceramic does not react to sunlight, salt water, chlorine or anything that the body emits. We use zirconium ceramic with confidence knowing that anyone can wear it without the concern of an adverse reaction to your body.
I have heard that Ceramic Rings cannot be removed in an emergency?
This is not true. Ceramic rings can be cut through with normal hospital equipment. We have tested this personally.
Did you know...?
Ceramic is used within the human body as a medical material (like titanium) as it is extremely biofriendly.
Ceramic tiles are used on the space shuttle to prevent it from igniting upon re-entry into the earth's atmosphere.
Unlike conventional brakes, the ceramic brakes on Formula One cars actually improve as they get hotter.
Ceramic is the primary choice of material for body armour and vehicle armour manufacturers today.
More and more, engineered ceramics (like that used in our jewellery) are being used in car engines, as it allows for far more efficient and longer lasting engine. This is helping to significantly reduce the environmental impact of the next generation of motor vehicles.
Our ceramic jewellery will not change colour or turn black/green or tarnish, even when exposed to chlorine, sweat or salt water.
Nickel Allergy / Allergic Contact Dermatitis
Many people know that some metals can produce reactions on a person’s skin, including rashes and even blistering. This fact sheet will endeavour to explain why this occurs, and provide other resources and updates.
Nickel is without doubt the primary reason people experience skin reactions when wearing jewellery. The following quotes are excerpts from the Queensland Department of Health’s fact sheet on nickel in jewellery: “The most common adverse health effect associated with wearing jewellery that contains nickel is a type of skin irritation called allergic contact dermatitis. A person can develop an allergy to nickel following repeated contact with nickel found in jewellery. Sweat from the skin acts as a corrosive to metals, which allows nickel in jewellery to be in direct contact with the skin. Once a person is sensitised to nickel, any further contact with nickel will cause an allergic reaction. Nickel sensitivity is usually persistent for life.
All of our products are 100% hypoallergenic. They are suitable for those with allergic contact dermatitis, and for those who wish to prevent it.
